Android is better than the others!

Better than others? Last time we talked about some important things to consider on the choice of your next phone. One of the things we talked about was the OS. We will now consider one of the most used OSes in the world and what makes it better than others. Android is an open-source OS owned by Google, which is present in over 2.5 billion active devices in the world. Its many accessible attributes make it a fan favourite with smartphone users. What are these attributes that make it more preferable to other OSes including its main rival Apple's iOS, and why should you choose an Android phone over an iOS phone? Here are some reasons. 1. Ease of Customization . You can rearrange your home screen, set a picture as the background, choose what app stays on what page, and all that. In android, you can pin just about anything to your home screen. Items like your favourite contacts can be pinned so you can just tap and call. You can even pin services you use frequently so you don't alw...

Before You Buy Your Next Phone

Before you buy your next phone Consider these few things... Mobile Phones have become a major part of our lives. We use them for work, (how about to garner information? It is different from work, to stay abreast of global trends. You can't negate this or disregard it), to socialise and even for spiritual purposes.  Choosing the right phone to get is therefore very important as this is a determinant of the effectiveness of the phone to you What then are the things to look out for when choosing a phone? We will attempt to guide you through as you try to make up your mind on your next phone. The following are necessary: 1. YOUR BUDGET How much are you willing to (I'll prefer splurge on your next phone) spend to get your next phone? Phones can cost from 20k to as much as 500k. While the 20k phones may not have all the functionality of the 500k phones, they are at least, able to do the basics like calls, SMS, social media, and even camera. Which brings us to our next item to conside...

Searching With a Picture

Searching with images instead of words Sometimes I wonder how earthlings managed to get information before the discovery of the internet and Google’s search engine sometime in 1997. Search engines have revolutionized the way by which we get access to information by making it very easy to scan the internet and get whatever information you need. With the right keywords or search queries, you can get information regarding any topic on this planet or even out of this planet. It has been said, that people learn new skills just from ‘ Googling ’ stuff from the comfort of their devices, from learning about every topic possible ranging from cooking to repairing our devices. Even things as complicated as building a house can be learned by using search engines and as such, I usually say “ With Google, you don’t have any excuse to be stupid .” Have you ever wished you could discover where a certain image originated from, or wished you could find out other information abo...

Music on the go: Where to download and access music online free and legal

Music on the go! For most of us, music performs a major role in our lives. It’s not just to entertain us which seems to be the primary purpose of music. It also helps to calm, soothe, console, inspire and so much more. Music has also been known to be used as a propaganda tool and as such has been used for both negative and positive campaigns. For me as a person, music helps to relax and also inspire me: you can call music my muse. When I am working on a project and I need inspiration, music comes in very handy, and I am sure it functions just as effective for most people. I listen to music all the time especially when I am on the go or in transit. This article is not an article about the various genres of music or about music producers, but it is inspired by a major question I have been asked by people who want a reliable source to get music especially on the go. As you know, our devices don’t come with music pre-loaded. Where and how do we get music into o...

How to know if someone else is viewing your WhatsApp messages

This post is inspired by conversations I had with two people recently. Someone called me and asked me to assist in “hacking” a phone number so this person could ‘read’ the WhatsApp messages of the phone number in question. I told this person that WhatsApp chats were difficult to hack. On the other hand, another person told me of how the person’s WhatsApp was ‘hacked’ and the individual was reading messages and this was only noticed months after. We have therefore decided to show you how to check if someone else is snooping in on your conversations. First off, let me state that WhatsApp messages are end-to-end encrypted   meaning that messages you send out are difficult to read elsewhere. There are still ways by which one can mirror your chats and be viewing them elsewhere. It is important we keep our phones close to us and locked so as to reduce the chances of being snooped on. For some of us who are mostly on our PCs, we tend to mirror our phones on our PC so we ...

How to Enable Dark Mode for WhatsApp

image courtesy WhatsApp So Facebook Inc finally decided to get on the dark train and rolled out dark mode for WhatsApp. Remember that most other apps including Instagram were already introduced to dark mode which has become very popular among users so it was no surprise that users quickly switched to the dark mode on WhatsApp once it was introduced early March after beta testing on both android and iOS. “It’s designed to reduce eye strain in low light environments. And we hope it helps prevent  those awkward moments where your phone lights up the room.”   WhatsApp said on their blog If you are crazy about dark mode like I am and you want all your apps to be on dark mode including WhatsApp then here’s how you can switch to dark mode ASAP. For Android 10 and iOS 13 users you can set dark mode by enabling it in the system settings. The first step, of course, is to update your WhatsApp app, go on to your app store and do that then follow the instructions ...

Rivers State set to become Africa's Tech Hub

Rivers State Technology Creek, RivTechCreek It’s no longer news that the Creeks of the Niger Delta is usually associated with Violence, kidnapping, militancy, crude oil spillage, and theft among other negative vices but what’s news is the efforts of people to change that narrative and one group which is at the forefront of changing the negative narrative of violence in the creeks to that of a tech-powered region is the Rivers State Technology Creek also known as RivTechCreek. RivTechCreek has been at the forefront of training and equipping youths of the Niger Delta with technology skills. The Creek has trained over 5000 youths in various technology-based skills in just over eighteen months of its existence. The striking thing about this training is that a majority of them were trained for free at no charge. SSA on ICT to the Rivers State Governor, Mr. Asawo Ibifuro Addressing pressmen on the achievements of RivTechCreek in the past eighteen months of its operat...

Hey there, it’s time to change your password now!

While I was learning internet security our instructor as a means of introduction showed us a statement credited to John Chambers, CEO of Cisco, a leading IT company that says “There are two types of companies; those who have been hacked and those who don’t yet know they have been hacked”. You see the idea behind this is that internet security is not an event but a process, so if you think you are safe now you might be right but that can change at any moment. There are people who are constantly trying to find flaws on the different internet platforms and protocols, while some are doing so to fix them some are doing so to exploit the flaws so we should do our best to stay safe while we surf the net. A sure way to stay safe is to create strong passwords and I will advise that we also change our passwords periodically. You see there are people who are constantly trying to gain access or ‘hack’ your accounts and they are many tools at their disposal. Some tools try m...
