It’s no longer news that the Creeks of the Niger Delta is usually associated with Violence, kidnapping, militancy, crude oil spillage, and theft among other negative vices but what’s news is the efforts of people to change that narrative and one group which is at the forefront of changing the negative narrative of violence in the creeks to that of a tech-powered region is the Rivers State Technology Creek also known as RivTechCreek.
RivTechCreek has been at the forefront of training and equipping youths of the Niger Delta with technology skills. The Creek has trained over 5000 youths in various technology-based skills in just over eighteen months of its existence. The striking thing about this training is that a majority of them were trained for free at no charge.

Addressing pressmen on the achievements of RivTechCreek in the past eighteen months of its operation, the SSA to the governor of Rivers State and Team Lead of RivTeckCreek, Asawo Ibifuro said that the creek through its Codegaminators programme had trained over 5000 youths in the following areas:
- Coding
- Game development
- Animations
- Graphic design
- Photography
- Database Administration
- Cybersecurity
Mr. Ibifuro also highlighted other achievements of the Creek to include the automation of ministries and MDAs in the state and biometric capturing of civil servants in the state. A job portal for both job seekers and job givers.
The SSA ICT went on to highlight other plans of the Creek which includes the facilitation of the 112 emergency system which is already operational.
Before the address of the SSA on ICT to Gov Ezenwo Wike, Dumo Dede of TechCreek took journalist on a facility tour. During the tour, the journalist were shown round the magnificent facility which includes lecture halls named after various creeks in the region, Co-working space for startups to operate from at subsidized rate, meeting rooms and a conference hall that can seat over 200 people.
Students, Soibi McRoberts, Ochulogo Faustina and facilitators Philip Obiora and Sydney Emmanuel thanked RivTechCreek for availing them of the platform to improve themselves.
