So
what’s your excuse for losing your contacts in this day and age?
Some years
ago my mom lost her phone and she got a replacement and asked me to help
recover her numbers. So I tried to recover her numbers into her new phone only
for me to realize that it was not properly backed up in the lost phone. I
remember what she said then “How can I
have you and still lose my contacts”. You see I had told her numbers could
be backed up and saved over the cloud and I guess I assumed it was done by my
sibling so I didn’t bother to cross-check then. After this episode, I always
made sure this didn’t happen to anyone I knew.
From the day
I got my first real smartphone up until this day I have had my vital documents
synced to the cloud and safe from loss. This means that I can access my phone
numbers from any of my devices at any time. So we will attempt to guide you on
how to sync your contacts so you can access them on all your devices and even
when you lose your phones you don’t lose your valuable contacts.
Statistics show that 88% of mobile phone users in the world use phones that run on
Google’s Android OS while 11.9% use iOS (By the way, the word OS stands for
Operating System, and it’s the software that manages how a computer, or in this
case a phone, operates and behave and the interaction of the phone with all the
different parts and components of the phone). So we will start with the android
device.
First. To fully
enjoy your android or any smartphone you have to have signed in with your
email, in this case, your Gmail account. If you haven’t you can now.
Go to the
contact app on your device. At the top right corner are three dots, this is the
settings corner of the Contact app.
In it scroll
down to the ‘Accounts’ option select the 'Add Account' option
Choose the
account profile you will like to sync your contacts with; Google, Yahoo, Outlook
(if you have a Gmail you select Google, if like me you use outlook, you select
Outlook and so on)
At this
point you will be directed to your email provider to sign in to your account
with your username and password.
After
signing in make sure the tab to sync your contacts is on this will ensure that
your contacts are saved to your Google account.
After
this procedure whenever you want to save contacts make sure you save contacts
to your email address and not to phone or SIM when prompted by your phone.
The beauty of this is that you can access all your contacts on any of your devices
by simply going to contacts.google.com and then sign in to your account to view
them.
The above procedures ensure that your contacts are safe even if you misplace your phone. When you get a new phone all you need to do is sign into your email and turn on contacts sync and watch all your contacts appear in your new device like magic.
